The Sci-Fi Experience

Science Fiction is a genre I need to explore more. Anytime I read some sci-fi I'm fascinated, but then never actually try to dig deeper into it. To be honest, I've read almost solely dystopian sci-fi, more than the robot/space ships type of thing. But I'm willing to try anything.
That's why Carl's Sci-Fi experience comes in handy.
As it happens, I have three books on my tbr shelf that should fit perfectly.
The left hand of darkness by Ursula Le Guin. I've wanted to read this for ages now, and although I've read quite a few negative reviews I want to judge for myself.
The Restaurant at the end of the Universe by Douglas Adams. The second book in the Hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy, which I loved.
The Handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood. I expect to love this!

any more suggestions, even for the future?

Good luck with The Left Hand of Darkness. You know I love Ursula, and I'm used to eagerly reading every book of hers I pick up, but this one really took some effort to get through. Yet in the end I was so glad I'd read it. It really shook me, and it made me consider things about gender I hadn't considered before. And I think that was exactly what it was meant to do.

I also think you'll love the Handmaid's Tale! And I loooove the Hitchhiker's series. Every single one of them.

I'm not at all well-read in sci-fi so there isn't much I can suggest, but I bet the sci-fi experience will give us lots of great reading suggestions.

I know it was a hard read for you and others as well. I'm hoping to enjoying it as much as the rest of her books, but maybe I should set my expectations a little lower.
I have read another sci-fi book by her, the Lathe of Heaven. I enjoyed it, it was good sci-fi but I didn't love it as much as her fantasy stuff.

I'm looking forward to everyone's reviews, and hopefully will find lots to add to the wishlist!

Hi Valentina,

I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your lovely words. To answer your question - 'Rose' is a book created for older children, and not a picture book.
Take care,
Lisa : )
